The FVV has been promoting research and development in the field of combustion engines since 1956. Our main goal is the continuous improvement of the efficiency ratios and emissions of engines and turbines – for the benefit of the economy, the environment and society in general. Our members are small, mid-sized and large companies of the manufacturing industry: automobile, engine and turbine manufacturers and their suppliers.

Joint research as basic principle

We define and discuss joint research projects in a network of industrial and scientific entities. Our research partners are universities, public research institutions and non-university R&D service facilities.

Knowledge transfer and the promotion of young researchers

The know-how acquired from the projects is made available to all the members without any restrictions. We ensure that the research results are transferred quickly and efficiently from the scientific side to industrial practice. Our projects make a considerable contribution to the advancement of young scientists.

National and international partners

We cultivate many excellent contacts in the world of science including longstanding partnerships with all the important engineering colleges in Germany and the research institutes of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). We also have partnerships with institutes in other German-speaking countries and our projects in other European countries are gaining importance.

The FVV projects are financed from the annual membership subscriptions and from public subsidies that the Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF) gets from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).
