The CEO of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, Dr. Uwe Lauber, has been elected as the new President of the VDMA Engines and Systems Association. The focus of his term of office will be on technology solutions for sectoral coupling of the energy transition with the transformation of the transport sector.
At its constituent meeting on 21 February 2018, hosted by Caterpillar Motoren GmbH & Co. KG in Rostock, the Board of the VDMA Engines and Systems Association elected the CEO of MAN Diesel & Turbo, Dr. Ing. Uwe Lauber, to its new chairman. Axel Kettmann (ABB Turbo Systems) and Dr. Andreas Lippert (GE Jenbacher) were elected deputies. The new Board has a clear focus for its upcoming term. "With the Maritime Energy Transition and Power-to-X as core topics, we have central points of the transformation of the energy sector on the agenda," emphasized Lauber and added: "The industry already offers a broad range of enabling technologies and is now ready, together with the political level and the public to enter into a dialogue about their use and their further development ".
With last year's initiative on the "Maritime Energy Transition", the trade association had initiated a discussion on how shipping can make its contribution to successful climate protection in the spirit of the Paris Agreement. The production and use of synthetically produced fuels with the help of "Power-to-X" processes makes it possible, in the view of the association, to move away from fossil fuels and to achieve the goal of a climate-neutral economy in the long term.
Dr. Lauber studied industrial engineering and also holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering. Following various stops in his career, he joined Sulzer Turbo in 2000 – now MAN Diesel & Turbo. Until 2010, he was responsible for design, research & development as well as the testing of compressors. In December 2010, he became Head of the Oil & Gas business unit. Dr. Lauber has been a member of the MAN Diesel & Turbo SE Executive Board since October 2014 and its Chairman since January 2015. The 49-year-old is married with two children.
Dr. Lauber, as well as his deputy Dr. Andreas Lippert, has been a member of the FVV Board since 2017.
