AiF publishes Facts & Figures for 2017

In 2017, the AiF and its subsidiaries awarded € 535.6 million in public funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in the framework of the pre-competitive Industrial Colective Research (IGF) programme and the funding instrument "R&D Cooperation Projects" of the Central Innovation Programme SME (ZIM).

In the IGF 171.7 million euros were disbursed and 668 new projects approved. There were more than 20,000 companies participating in a total of 1,613 ongoing projects. Compared to the previous year, the subsidies for the IGF thus increased by around 25 percent and the new approvals by around 75 percent.

  • 5.4% of the funding volume went to the promotion of IGF projects in the international CORNET funding programme.
  • 1.5% of the funding volume went to the promotion of IGF projects in the field of "energy transition".
  • 20.28% of the funding went to research associations in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • 5.190 million euros went to IGF projects coordinated by the Research Association for Internal Combustion Engines (FVV) e. V.

Through the funding instrument "R&D Cooperation Projects" of the ZIM programme € 362.9 million were awarded and a further 2,600 projects were newly approved and started.

The 176 employees of AiF e.V., AiF Projekt GmbH and AiF F ∙ T ∙ K GmbH took care of around 10,000 ongoing research projects. Almost 3,300 projects were newly approved.
