In 2018, the AiF and its subsidiaries awarded 474.3 million euros in public funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) as part of pre-competitive Industrial Collective Research (IGF) and the funding instrument "R&D Cooperation Projects" of the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM). This means that the volume of promotional funding fell slightly compared with the previous year (2017: EUR 535.6 million euros).
In the IGF, 181.3 (171.7) million euros were disbursed and 543 (668) new projects were approved. There were over 22,500 participations in a total of 1,757 ongoing projects. 293.0 (362.9) million euros were disbursed and 2,409 (2,600) new projects were approved under the "R&D Cooperation Projects" funding pillar of ZIM.
The German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Industrieller Forschungsvereinigungen - AiF):
A total of 181 employees of AiF e.V., AiF Projekt GmbH and AiF F∙T∙K GmbH took care of around 9,000 ongoing research projects. Almost 3,000 new projects were approved.
The FVV together with six other industrial research associations (air and drying technology, automation and microelectronics, drive technology, intralogistics, machine tools, printing machines) of the Mechanical Engineering Research Association (Forschungskuratorium Maschinenbau - FKM) have been, once again, a strong research partner of the AiF.
