FVV Newsletter 03/2023

The FVV conferences in autumn and spring serve both as a transfer platform for Industrial Collective Research on the technological and scientific foundations for climate neutrality and zero-impact emissions in sustainable energy conversion systems - such as energy plants and energy sources, powertrain systems, vehicle/industrial engines, fuel cells, aircraft engines, turbo machines - and as a stage for young engineers and researchers. The next event will take place in Würzburg from 04 to 06 October 2023. Please also note two cooperation events of our research and innovation network partners JSAE/SAE and E‑MOTIVE by FVA.  #wearetransfer

Transfer // Autumn 2023
The new programme is out

At the FVV Transfer + Networking Event | Autumn 2023 from 4 to 6 October 2023 at the Maritim Hotel Würzburg, researchers and industry experts will be informed about the latest IGF interim and final project reports and discuss the FVV's further research needs. In addition to the Expert Groups and the Research Committee, the General Assembly and the Scientific Advisory Committee will also meet as usual each year in autumn.

Transfer // Spring 2023
Review on Spring 2023

The Spring 2023 Transfer Report summarises the highlights of the last conference: Alternative powertrains with potential / Material and resource efficiency / How a focus on system efficiency accelerates the green transformation. The research directory lists all projects presented including the conference proceedings and final reports ( if they are available so far). At the end of the publication you will find QR codes giving direct access to the full research programme and all meetings (24/7 in THEMIS ) and a project list (as of 3 July 2023).

EG Electric Motors
Electric traction motors / traction batteries

The research projects of the EG Electric Motors are primarily concerned with propulsion at system level: the optimised interaction of electric motor, inverter and battery. Their scope addresses current issues of relevance to short- and long-term product development, and includes, for example, efficiency enhancement, thermal management and fast-charging capability, as well as resource conservation and recycling at the end of the vehicle's service life. Two project proposals for increasing the speed range of electric traction motors (M0223, M1223) and one project proposal for detecting the SoH state of electric traction batteries (M1623) are being prepared, among others, from the New Project Ideas of the 2023 Spring Conference.

EG Sustainable Powertrain Systems
Virtual vehicle system optimisation / AD/ADAS

A discussion group, chaired by Dr Reza Rezaei (IAV) and established after the 2023 Spring Conference at the suggestion of the Research Committee (AFo), is looking at opportunities for virtual vehicle optimisation / field validation by combining the latest autonomous driving (AD) and powertrain technologies with the use of advanced AI-based modelling methods. The combination of future AD/ADAS and zero-impact powertrain technologies with the latest AI-based simulation methodology will lead to more efficient and sustainable energy conversion systems and safer automated and autonomous driving. The New Project Idea will be presented to the wider membership for discussion in Würzburg.

JSAE / SAE
Powertrain, Energy & Lubricants (PEL) International Meeting 2023

Led by Keiji Kaita (Toyota Motor Co) and Jin Kusaka (Waseda University), the organisers of JSAE and SAE invite you to Kyoto from 29 August to 1 September 2023 to attend the conference entitled »Technical challenges of a carbon-neutral society by 2050«. Keynote speeches will focus on various global trends towards achieving a carbon-neutral society by 2050, followed by an executive panel session in which experts will discuss technological development in relation to four key elements required to meet society's mobility demand: »vehicle electrification«, »internal combustion engines«, »energy, fuels and lubricants« and »zero emissions by 2050«.

Speakers from the FVV network include Prof. Dr. André Casal Kulzer and Prof. Dr. Michael Bargende (IfS), Kelly Senecal (Convergent Science), Marc Sens (IAV), Dr. Olaf Toedter (KIT Campus Transfer), Keiji Kawamoto (AICE) and Dietmar Goericke (FVV).
