FVV Newsletter 04/2023

Many different technology solutions are needed to meet the challenges of the green transformation of the energy and mobility sectors: more instead of less. More than anything else, it needs a shift towards a climate-neutral energy and raw materials supply. In addition to the electricity turnaround, Europe must now also advance the transition to green molecules: green electricity, advanced biofuels, carbon-neutral molecules (hydrogen, PtX). Because only then will modern energy conversion technologies be able to unfold their full potential. Our new annual report shows that the FVV's research is broad-based in every respect - as are our members and RTD performers. In addition, with the German Aero Space Center DLR, we have a new project management organisation for the Industrial Collective Research funding programme IGF. ›It's not rocket science‹ - so let's do it!  #wearetransfer

TRANSFER 10/2023
FVV Annual Report 2022/23 including research directory published

As an industrial research association operating in the network of VDMA's Mechanical Engineering Research Federation (FKM) and the project management organisations (AiF / DLR-PT) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the FVV publishes a report every year in which facts + figures on the activities and projects of the research association are presented briefly and transparently.

You will find complete directories of members, RTD performers, committees and all research projects of the thematically reorganised expert groups with many direct links to public content on our website and specific subject / project inventories in the THEMIS platform.

In addition to the annual report, we provide as a package other relevant transfer publications via the download link.

MTZ 11/2023
High flexibility & reduced complexity in the electric powertrain

In the FVV network, companies, research institutions and associations engage in pre-competitive collective research on powertrain solutions to achieve climate neutrality in the transport sector. All concepts that can potentially contribute to CO2 reduction are considered - whether these be battery-electric solutions, the use of hydrogen in fuel cells or thermal conversion systems, or other alternative energy sources. The activities in the area of battery electric vehicles (BEV) have recently been pooled in the Electric Motors Expert Group, which was founded for this purpose. A research focus recently published in the MTZ Magazine presents three new project ideas.

In addition to research activities within the FVV, the expert group carries out cooperative projects as part of the E-MOTIVE programme with the Research Association for Drive Technology (FVA) and the Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers Association (VDMA).

MAKE IT NEW // IGF
The new project management agency says hello

In spring, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) issued a call for tenders for the IGF funding programme for pre-competitive industrial research upstream of product development and commissioned the project management organisation of the German Aerospace Center (DLR-PT) to implement the IGF programme as of 1 January 2024. Until now, this task was the responsibility of the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF). At DLR-PT, the Department of Society - Innovation - Technology will oversee the programme. Members of the FVV Innovations + Transfer Network will find a short profile presentation of the new project management organisation in THEMIS. We are looking forward to this cooperation!

Sustainable Power Systems: new Steering Group Acoustics

On the initiative of some members of the Expert Group Sustainable Powertrain Systems, the Steering Group ›Acoustics‹ has been newly established. It brings together experts working on Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) and acoustic design in the member companies, and serves as an exchange platform on current acoustics projects of the powertrain systems group as well as related projects in other expert groups. As such the Steering Group will promote the development of new project ideas. The first meeting is planned for Wednesday 13.03.2024 as part of the FVV Transfer + Networking Event | Spring 2024 in Würzburg. Interested experts can sign up for the THEMIS members list via the link below.

From Production to Application: The #P2X Conference

Are you dealing in your professional life, for example as a project owner or developer, with economic and technical questions on PtX technologies? In this case From production to Application: The #P2X Conference, which will take place in Frankfurt/Main from 14 to 15 November, is the place-to-be.

The conference will consider opportunities and practical, technical challenges arising along the value chain of hydrogen and its downstream products:

  • electrolysis and other production processes for hydrogen; synthesis for e-fuels or hydrogen derivatives incl. ammonia and methanol;
  • application in heavy-duty transport, shipping and aviation or in the steel & chemical process industries;
  • safety-related issues, transport and logistics;
  • and the technical-economic evaluation of entire supply chains and their business cases in a national and international context.

The two-day event clearly stands out from other events in the segment due to its fresh focus on first-hand information from renowned experts accross the entire value chain.

Powertrains with Renewable Energy Carriers | FEE 2023

There are now more than 1.4 billion vehicles on the world's roads. More than 99 percent of these are powered by fossil fuels. Although electric vehicles make a very important contribution on the way to CO2-neutral mobility, a rapid reduction in CO2 emissions from road traffic can only be achieved by including the existing fleet. Sustainable energy carriers are required for all mobility solutions. In addition to the electrification of the powertrain, hydrogen and e-fuels offer a globally feasible approach.

The Conference on Powertrains with Renewable Energy Carriers on 28 - 29 November 2023 will deal with these topics. The event is aimed at participants from industry, science and politics who are interested in challenges and solutions for CO2-neutral mobility using renewable energy sources regardless of the drive type.

Presentations and keynotes by experts from science and industry on highly topical issues will highlight trends, global market developments and challenges, and provide space for discussion throughout the two-day conference.
