FVV Newsletter 02/2024

FVV has undergone a sweeping transformation over the last few years and now stands for all powertrain solutions and energy conversion systems of the future. However, our member companies, particularly suppliers and manufacturers of vehicle powertrain and drive systems, continue to encounter major international obstacles. Companies are increasingly considering retaining combustion engines for longer than was originally envisaged and contrary to their original planning, and are also working on concepts that use alternative carbon-neutral fuels. In this context, we believe it is necessary to move towards a more solution-oriented approach and greater technology neutrality. We have talked a lot about future concepts in the management bodies, be they powertrains, energy carriers or entire ecosystems. This was important as we need to think in terms of systems to be able to navigate the era of transformation. However, it is essential that we maintain a sharp focus on detailed solutions. Only then can we achieve the level of development in alternative powertrains that we see today for conventional systems. FVV plays a key role in this process and provides the basis for the development of future technology solutions with its pre-competitive research projects. #MakeItNew

Markus Schwaderlapp and Christopher Steinwachs lead the FVV Board // Peter Gutzmer becomes Honorary Chairman

The FVV eV has undergone a sweeping transformation over the last few years and, with its innovative fields of research, stands for all energy conversion systems and powertrain solutions of the future. Now that the long-standing chairman Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer was awarded the honorary chairmanship of the research association, Dr. Markus Schwaderlapp as the new chairman and Christopher Steinwachs as deputy chairman will continue to lead the FVV Board.

The forthcoming meeting of the FVV Board is held in Frankfurt/M. on 7 June 2024.

FVV’s hydrogen research for carbon-neutral mobility

Hydrogen as an energy carrier does not release any greenhouse gases. If it is produced using renewable energy sources, it is completely climate-neutral as ›green‹ hydrogen. Research into its potential in combination with both fuel cells and combustion engines is therefore a key pillar of FVV’s activities for sustainable mobility

Zero-impact emissions for all traffic scenarios

In the FVV project ›Zero-impact tailpipe emission powertrains‹, two reference vehicles with current exhaust gas aftertreatment systems were examined under demanding operating conditions. It is shown that both vehicles no longer have a significant impact on air quality in most scenarios and that they fulfill the criterion of Zero-Impact Emissions (ZIE).

interop4X // Interoperability Summit

The use of data and information is crucial for innovation, efficiency and progress. It is not only access to data that is particularly important, but also its cross-manufacturer exchange and effective further processing of this information. Interoperability plays a central role in the digital transformation and is fundamental to a robust data economy. The call for presentations is open until 2 June 2024. Interested parties can register and submit their presentations free of charge. All presentations will be held in English.
