The FVV Transfer + Networking Event | Spring 2026
The event focused on research into modern energy conversion systems for power generation and propulsion systems with a low carbon footprint (PCF – Product Carbon Footprint), which in some cases place considerably higher demands on research and development than established concepts.
Around 250 participants took the opportunity to gain insights into the current state of Industrial Collective Research (IGF), to take away cross-disciplinary inspiration and to further expand their personal networks in the field of sustainable propulsion and energy conversion technologies.
Through in-depth specialist presentations, project reports and scientific discussions, current research results, developments in methodology and the latest scientific findings were presented. The event thus provided an interdisciplinary forum that promotes targeted knowledge transfer between research and application and supports dialogue on future research challenges.
Keynote Carbon-neutral chemistry
Dr Kai Ehrhardt, Vice President of Reaction Engineering and Executive Expert at BASF SE in Ludwigshafen, opened the event with a presentation on the green transformation of the chemical industry. His case study highlighted potential approaches to reducing the carbon footprint across numerous value chains through product and process innovations.
The keynote speeches at the FVV Transfer + Networking Events address key research questions in various areas of energy conversion and encourage further reflection and discussion.
Transfer Materials science and non-fossil energy sources
The transformation of industry towards a sustainable circular economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and zero-impact from other pollutants is fully underway. The FVV supports the implementation of this energy, raw materials and propulsion transition – which is challenging in every respect – through an international research network in which all partners collaborate on a pre-competitive basis to research technologies and systems aimed at phasing out fossil fuels as quickly as possible.
Future propulsion and energy systems with a low CO2 footprint place new, and in some cases significantly higher, demands on development than established concepts. The pre-competitive focus of the FVV allows for a 360-degree perspective of the associated challenges. With this holistic view, research projects are designed to lay the foundations for the development of future energy sources and converters.
Examples include projects in the field of acoustics and materials, which investigated compatibilities between new fuels and established metallic materials and lubricating oils, the use of additive manufacturing processes, and noise phenomena in gas turbines. In another successfully completed project, the efficiency of hydrogen as a fuel in internal combustion engines was further improved using inert gas in a closed-loop system.
