With autumn approaching, the next FVV Transfer + Networking Event is also drawing nearer. From 23 to 25 September 2026, representatives from industry and science will come together in Bonn to discuss the latest project results, identify new research needs and strengthen professional exchange within the FVV network.

In this newsletter, we present the conference programme and provide information on registration and organisation. We also look back at the Spring 2026 Transfer Report and highlight two topics – last year’s keynote speech, »Hydrogen as a key technology for the energy transition«, and the elementa fuel cell stack – which demonstrate how research findings in the field of fuel cells are being translated into practical technological systems.

FVV Transfer + Networking Event | Autumn 2026
The programme is now online!
 

We are delighted to present the programme for the FVV Transfer + Networking Event | Autumn 2026, which will take place from 23 to 25 September 2026 at the Maritim Hotel Bonn.

On the Friday of the conference, we cordially invite you to the Meeting of the Members and the meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board, and look forward to your active participation!

At the information session on Thursday – following on from the spring keynote on green chemistry – we can look forward to a presentation by DHL on the company’s sustainability strategy and on reducing the carbon footprint in logistics.

Other highlights from the lecture programme:

  • Powertrains and components: 
    Hydrogen compatibility of materials, data-driven condition monitoring and robust NVH design of electric powertrains
  • Emissions reduction:
    Nitrogen oxide reduction in hydrogen and diesel engines, and catalytic exhaust after-treatment for ammonia engines
  • Turbomachinery:
    Probabilistic design and service life assessment, turbine cooling and coatings, as well as compressor and air bearing concepts for hydrogen-based systems

A look back at spring 2026
 

The Transfer Report | Spring 2026 summarises the highlights of the most recent conference:

  • Keynote: Climate-neutral Chemistry – The chemicals industry's road to climate neutrality
  • Knowledge and technology transfer: Materials engineering and non-fossil energy carriers paving the way for the development of carbon-neutral powertrains

The research directory lists all the presentations once again, together with the conference proceedings and final reports. At the end of the publication, you will find QR codes linking to the research programme and dates (both updated daily in THEMIS) and a list of projects (as of 01 May 2026).

Keynote – Hydrogen as a key technology for the energy transition
 
 

Hydrogen can enable renewable energy to be stored over the long term and utilised for a variety of applications. At the FVV Transfer + Networking Event | Autumn 2025, Prof. Dr Thomas von Unwerth and Erik Pohl highlighted the technological and structural prerequisites required for an efficient hydrogen system. It is clear that: The energy transition requires technology-neutral solutions that are developed to suit the specific area of application.

Fuel cell research
elementa: Research using a shared reference system
 
 

During her visit to Chemnitz University of Technology, FVV project manager Jana Müller was able to see the generic elementa fuel cell stack in action on the test bench. This stack is being used as the basis for a reference system for future research projects, supplemented by components from the FVV network and a digital twin. In this way, the project is creating a common basis for the comparison, validation and further development of fuel cell systems.
